How acne, blackheads are formed

Most people have suffered from acne at some stage, yet relatively few people are aware of the exact process for formation of acne
In acne, a sebaceous gland in the hair follice produces excess oil, irritating the lining of the cell. It also causes the proponibacterium acnes bacteria in the follice to produce a substance which will cause the cells of the follicle lining to clump together. Pressure will build up in the hair follicle making the accumulated oil, celland other debris to move out of the pore in the form of a small cylindrical clump. If the pore is open, the blackhead or open comedo will be visible and come out after some time. The tip of the blackhead is usually dark in colour, and the dark colour comes from melanin in the skin.
If the pore is closed, a whitehead or closed comedo is formed which appears to be a lump or a boil in the skin. Unlike the boils caused by mosquito or insect bites which recede after some time, due to the accumulated oil and debris, the whitehead does not subside, until the comedo is ejected.
Over a period of time, the pore will open, and the comedo may fall off or can be squeezed out by applying pressure to the surrounding areas
The process clearly indicates that men and women with oily skin, are more likely to suffer from acne.

Oily food increases acne/skin problems

While hereditary factors determine the quality of the skin to a very great extent, oily food can also increase acne and pimples on the face. So teenagers who are likely to have acne, are advised to avoid eating oily and junk food, especially indian food which is deep fried and has a lot of oil. Samosas, bhajiyas and batata wadas are some of the popular indian snacks which are deep fried and have plenty of oil.
Another advantage of oily food is that they have a lot of calories, and eating them will cause an increase in the weight of the person as oily food has a lot of calories. So oily foods are to be avoided to the extent possible, and in case a person is forced to eat oily food, use a blotting paper or other similar paper to absorb the excess oil on the surface of the samosa or oil fried snack.
A diet with no oil cooked food, will help reduce the weight and also acne to some extent.

Drinking water to reduce acne

Drinking plenty of water daily has a number of health benefits. If a person does not drink enough water, he or she could suffer from water retention, increasing the body weight. Additionally it can affect the skin of the person, as it will appear to be blotchy and unclear.
For those with acne prone skin , it is advisable to drink plenty of water and flush out the toxins from the body, so that there is no outbreak of acne and pimples . The amount of water which a person should drink depends on the weather conditions, nature of activity, diet of the person. During summer, in tropical areas, people lose a lot of water sweating so they should consume more water.
People who work in air conditioned offices are less likely to sweat, so they have to drink less water. Similarly people who eat juicy fruits like water melon are also less likely to feel thirsty.
So it is advisable for people to drink plenty of water so that they do not get dehydrated, develop pimples and acne.
